Pagerank (PR) is a way Google ranks websites, but technically it does not affect your Search Engine Ranking position. It determines how often a webpage will be crawled by bots.Pagerank has 10 ranks - 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10 from 0 being the lowest to 10 being the highest.Each webpage has it's own pagerank (Example: www.example.com might have a pagerank of 5 but www.example.com/whatever might have pagerank 1) Usually, Homepages of a website should have the highest pagerank.

Pagerank is gained By having websites linking to your website.To get high pagerank, you need web pages that already have a high pagerank to link to your website.Pagerank is Quality over Quanity so having 1 website that has pagerank 10 linking to yours will give you a much higher page rank then 1000 pagerank 0 websites. It also depends on how many websites a webpage is linking because if you have the webpage that has pagerank 10 linking to 1 milion websites, you will not get alot out of it since each website will get a equal share of the rank given by the webpage with pagerank 10.

Will PageRank affect my Search Engine Result Positions?

technically, No - they wouldn't. a website with low pagerank can have higher Search engine result position then a high pagerank website. Pagerank determines how often a webpage will be crawled but this could still help you get higher search engine results position because if you make constant changes to your website, then they will get indexed faster and if you made changes to your SEO (search engine Optimisation) and it gets indexed alot quicker, then you will get higher results faster.

How often is Pagerank Updated?

PageRank is Updated about every 4 months, thats the average though, sometimes it can take upto 1 year or sometimes abit less than 4 months, but if your website is new, don't expest to get pagerank quick unless you are lucky.

Be very careful to who you link because the website your linking might suddently get viruses/malware or have unapropiate content in which case you will be punished for.

Whenever asking other websites to link to you or any place where you will be placing your link to, Your website link should explain about your website or actualy use your website's url as otherwise it will give you less rank from it. Example:

Good Links

<a href="www.example.com">A website about examples and example</a> will show: A website about examples and example and link to www.example.com

Obviously you will change the example.com and the description matching to your website. Also Note That you should Not use the same description all the time as Google might think your doing it all and only for Pagerank so always change it in some way.

Bad Links

<a href="www.example.com">Click Here</a> will show Click Here and Link to www.example.com. The reason it's bad is because The crawler(bot) will not know where the link goes to and what that website is about. Any descriptions which do not actualy describe the website too well will not give you as much rank then a Good link Would.
